Thoughts on creating Macbeth...
In Elizabethan England, audiences would not go to "see" a play. They would go to "hear" it. This practice departs from the spectacle of the Greek theatre and stands isolated from the decades of theatre tradition which followed. It feels appropriate that the most famous poet in the world should be returned to the radio medium, as became common with the advent of radio entertainment, so that audiences can, again, "hear" his work. It is my hope that Shakespeare's work as well as the work of the students in the MIT Shakespeare Ensemble can capture your imagination, divert your attention, and engross you in a tale of witches, ghosts, and murder.
